Serial cables and consoles are very important parts of a room full of servers and networking devices. They allow administration via command line, which I prefer for its depth and breadth of options. I use Mac OS X all the time. Since MacBooks don’t have serial ports, there has to be a way to still be able to make console connections. So you first need hardware. I have heard good things about Keyspan USB Serial adapter (USA-19HS). It has support for both Windows and Mac. Once you have installed drivers and plugged it in, you are good to go.Terminal For Mac OsTerminal For Mac
Kitty Terminal can be easily considered among the best PuTTY alternatives for Mac OS as it’s a robust, multi-platform, and a GPU-supported terminal emulator. The program transfers description to the GPU and makes the OpenGL to work for quick, multi-platform performance. Serial Tools is a set of serial port tools for Mac OS X. It includes a Terminal Emulator, a Protocol Analyzer and a serial port monitor to watch for connections and removals of serial ports. Serial Tools is built as a Universal Binary application and works natively with both the PowerPC and the Intel based Macintosh running Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4. While entering the serial port name into the code in arduino IDE, enter the whole port address i.e: /dev/cu.usbmodem. or /dev/cu.UG-. where the. is the port number. And for the port number in case of mac just open terminal and type. Ls /dev/. and then search for the port that u have set in arduino IDE. Sep 17, 2010 Hello all Mac users, I need a software like Putty on Windows, but for OSX. I have a USB-RS232 ’dongle’ and serial cable I use to access the console on some UNIX servers, but I need a serial terminal software to use it. Is there a good one for OSX?? Putty does this for me on Windows, but not available for Mac I see. Thanks you all!!
Now comes the software component. screen can be used to start a console session. But first you need to identify hardware. So run the following in Terminal.
ls /dev/tty.*
This will display devices, such as the Keyspan adapter. You will need the exact name of the device when using screen.Serial Terminal For Mac Os 10.13
screen /dev/tty.xxxx datarate
where /dev/tty.xxxx stands for the device as shown when you did ls, and data rate is for the device you are connecting to. This should get you into the console of the device you are connecting to.Terminal For Mac Download
